Benchmark
Benchmark is the section that gives the performance of the TR7 hardware platforms together with the measurement condition. Each value is written with the workload and the condition under which it was obtained; it also shows what a table giving only the peak value cannot tell, that is, what limits the value.
TR7 hardware platforms take advantage of the hardware capabilities offered by Intel processors and chipsets to accelerate cryptography and data compression operations. The TR7 software runs the cryptographic operations within TLS and the content compression workloads together with the processor instructions and hardware acceleration resources supported on the relevant platform. This approach supports more efficient use of processor resources and the processing of high traffic volumes. The acceleration mechanisms used may vary depending on the device model, the processor and chipset features, the software configuration and the workload.
Benchmark results should be evaluated together with the hardware and software configuration of the relevant platform. The test setup, workloads, metric definitions and measurement rules are described on the Test Methodology page.
Platforms Side by Side
| Platform performance | H700 | H7000 | H17000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Xeon W, 10 cores | 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable, 26 cores | 2 × 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable |
| Form factor | 1U | 1U | 2U |
| Models | H705 - H780 | H7040 - H7200 | H17080 - H17200 |
| Throughput | 5 - 80 Gbps | 40 - 200 Gbps | 80 - 200 Gbps |
| HTTP requests/s | 1.2 - 1.8 M | 3 - 4.5 M | 5 - 7 M |
| TLS TPS (ECDSA-P256) | 12,000 - 40,000 | 50,000 - 90,000 | 140,000 - 220,000 |
| TLS throughput | 5 - 40 Gbps | 40 - 100 Gbps | 80 - 160 Gbps |
| Compression throughput | 5 - 30 Gbps | 30 - 80 Gbps | 70 - 100 Gbps |
| L4 HTTP RPS | 1.2 - 9 M | 18 - 36 M | 25 - 50 M |
| L4 Concurrent Connections | 20 - 120 M | 140 - 145 M | 120 - 300 M |
The values are the range between the smallest and the largest model of the series; the values model by model are on the platform pages. On H7000, the L4 values are only for H7140 and H7200. The workload and condition of each row are written in the relevant section of the platform page.
Measurement conditions
L7 values belong to the device serving only L7; if L4 vServices are also defined, HTTP requests/s reads about 15% lower. Throughput values belong to the 1500-byte frame and are on the pessimistic side. Compression throughput values depend on the content. TLS TPS values are for full handshake. L4 HTTP RPS is for forwarding over established persistent connections, and L4 Concurrent Connections is for connections kept idle.
Measurement Principles
- Repetition. In the measurements, peaks are taken with at least three independent runs.
- Fresh boot. Measurements are taken on a freshly booted device.
- Both sides are measured. In each run, the processors of the device and the load generator are sampled in the same window; if the generator is above 90%, the value is not counted as the ceiling of the device.
- Measured and capacity are separated. When the generator or the network card saturates before the device, the capacity of the device is found separately and given in the capacity class.
