settings backup
The settings backup command manages the system backups of the device: it lists the existing backups, creates a new backup, shows the detail of a backup and restores the selected backup.
Restoring cannot be undone
When apply runs, the whole of the current configuration is replaced with the content of the backup. The operation restarts the system services and can lead to a temporary unavailability; after a successful application the system is reloaded. This command does not show a confirmation screen — it starts to run the moment it is written.
Command Summary
On this resource there are no update and delete actions: the backups are not changed, they are only created and applied.

Things to Know
- Restoring changes everything. According to the endpoint explanation, the whole of the current configuration is replaced with the content of the backup, the services are restarted and the operation cannot be undone. A current backup must have been taken before applying.
- There is no confirmation screen. The
applycommand runs the moment it is written; it should not be applied without the file name being verified withshow. - The listing covers the last 7 days by default. For older backups the
--daysvalue is raised. - Giving a name makes finding the backup easier. When
--nameis left empty, a name with a time stamp is produced; giving a speaking name to the backup taken before a planned change makes the rollback easier. - The backups can be sent out. Transferring a copy of the backup files to another server is configured with
settings file-transport. - The backups on the disk can be cleaned up by themselves. The thresholds that manage the removal of the old data when the disk fills up are in the
settings disk-managementcommand.
