GTM
GTM is the place where a DNS service is monitored and managed from a single screen. The screen brings together the query dashboard of the service, the domain names it hosts and the DNS records of these domain names in tabs.
Since every DNS service is a separate listener, this screen is also per service: the listener addresses, the domain names, the records, the cache and the statistics of a service concern only itself. The definitions that determine how the records will turn into an answer, on the other hand, are layered: DNS Forwarder Profiles, Express Profiles, Health Checks, Health Scenarios and Remote Devices are defined device-wide and are common to all the services; the domain names and the records of the service use them by selecting them.
For the device-wide views, the Service Management list and the Home Dashboard: GTM tab that shows the totals of all the services are used. A new service is created and deleted only in the Service Management list.
If the service has not been created yet
What the DNS service is, all the fields in the creation form (vDevice, Route Table, Frontend IPs, DNS Forwarder, Cache, QOS, Log, Meta Data) and the status values of the service are explained on the Service Management page.
Accessing the Screen
- Left Monitor Panel is opened.
- GTM is selected from the category tabs at the top left.
- The DNS services defined on TR7 are listed.
- The service to be monitored is clicked; the screen opens with the Dashboard tab that carries the name of the service.
The category is open to the users who have GTM authorization; since the panel tabs can be arranged per user, if it has been removed before, it is added again from the same selector. In the list every DNS service takes place with its name and a status bar (the status text is in the tooltip); the status distribution bar above the list filters the services according to their status. The default primary metric of the list is DNS Query Rate; from the metric selection of the panel, Counts (the number of domain names and records), Frontend (the first listener address and +N), Cache TTL (only while the cache is on) or Route Table can also be selected. The filter of the panel offers the Name and Status cards; and the link in the tab title opens the Service Management list.
The same management screen also opens when the service name under the GTM Services card in the GTM tab in the Configuration Menu is clicked and with the Dashboard button of the service preview in the Service Management list. The card lists the number of services on the device (Manage N GTM services; route traffic to the optimal target with DNS-based load balancing.) and, in its bottom line, the name of every service together with Service Management; when the card is clicked, the page does not change, the menu goes one level in.
The time interval of the panel is carried to the dashboard
When the service screen is opened from the Left Monitor Panel, the time interval selected in the panel is applied to the service dashboard.
Tabs
| Tab | Visibility Condition | Content |
|---|---|---|
| The service name | Always | The monitoring dashboard of the service (Dashboard). |
| Domains | Always | The domain names that the service hosts: the operating modes, the record management form, DNSSEC and SOA settings. |
| Records | Always | The DNS records of the selected domain name; adding, editing, deleting and Zone Transfer. |
The label of the first tab is not Dashboard but the name of the service; in front of the label there is a strip that carries the status color of the service.
Beside these fixed tabs, the forms opened from the screen take place as closable tabs: the service editing form (Edit), the domain name forms (Add Domain / Edit Domain) and the record forms (Add Record / Edit Record). When they are closed, the screen returns to the fixed tab that is open.
In the ⋮ menu at the right end of the tab bar there is a single operation: Edit; it opens the editing form of the service.
The authorization of the tabs is not separated
The whole of the screen requires the GTM module in the license and full authorization in the GTM area; when these conditions are met, all three tabs are visible. If there is no module in the license, the Not covered by your license card is displayed, and on the users whose authorization is not enough, the You don't have access to this page card is displayed.
Preview panel on the right
While the Dashboard tab is open, the preview panel of the service is on the right of the screen; the Edit and Log buttons and the Restart Service operation in the ⋮ menu are here. The panel closes on the Domains and Records tabs; for its detail see Dashboard › The Service Preview Panel.
The domain name and record dashboards
The own dashboards of the domain names and the records open as screens separate from the service screen: the domain name dashboard with the Dashboard button in the domain name preview (on the screen there are the own tab of the domain name and the Records tab), and the record dashboard with the Dashboard button in the record preview. For their detail see Domains › The Domain Name Dashboard and Records › The Record Dashboard.
Division of Labor Between Tabs
The query rate coming to the service, the response codes, the record type, country, domain name and record breakdowns, the cache, the latency, the forwarder and the system metrics are collected in the panels in the selected time interval. A query wave or an error increase is noticed from here.
The domain names for which the service is authoritative and the operating mode of each of them (Standalone, Disaster Recovery, Datacenter) are defined here. The mode determines with which data center groups all the records of the domain name will be answered.
The addresses, the health conditions, the topology rules, the distribution algorithm and the fail-safe records of every record are established here. The answer that returns to the client is produced from the combination of these settings with the health and data center status.
The listener addresses, the route table, the forwarder, the cache, the resource limits and the log setting of the service are edited from the service list or from the Edit operation on the service screen.
