Data Flow Panel
Data Flow Panel is the panel that turns the configuration of a vService on TR7 into a live traffic flow diagram. The path on which the request enters from the listener addresses and reaches the Backend Services by passing through the security layers, the rules and the decision points is read on a single screen and at a single glance, without navigating in the setting screens.
Complex application delivery and security configurations are no longer line-by-line setting lists: what is defined, what is running and where the traffic passes are seen in the same picture. Every box in the diagram is a gate; when it is clicked, its summary opens and from there it is possible to pass directly to editing.
The panel is present in four modules, each with the module's own point of view: Load Balancer - ADC draws the whole application delivery path, WAF - WAAP the web application protection, Bot/DDoS the layered threat defense, and AGS - AAM the authentication and access control.
The name of the panel
The panel is the preview panel that stays open on the right side of the vService screens and it does not carry a separate title in the interface. So that it can be referred to easily in the documentation, it is described under the name Data Flow Panel; the technical description of every module is on the Dashboard page of that module.
What Is the Data Flow Panel?
The behavior of a vService consists of dozens of settings together with its listeners, certificates, rules, security modules, distribution algorithm and Backend Services. These settings are defined on different screens; but the traffic passes through all of them along a single path. The Data Flow Panel draws this path: it lines up the settings not according to the screens on which they are defined, but according to the order in which the traffic meets them.
The result is a picture that can be read by the technical team and the management at the same time. The operator finds the failure point within seconds, the security team verifies which traffic passes through which check, and the architecture team explains with a single drawing behind which layers the application stands.
How Is It Read?
The diagram of the four panels speaks the same visual language; it follows the journey of the traffic from top to bottom:
The decision node carries its own identity in every module: in WAF - WAAP there is an artificial intelligence chip inside the shield, in Bot/DDoS a virus icon, and in AGS - AAM a key. The Load Balancer - ADC panel, on the other hand, places the security modules into the flow as their own strips and, at the end of the path, shows the distribution algorithm and the Backend Services one by one. The icon strip under the diagram summarizes in a single row the settings that do not have a box on the traffic path (such as logs, reports, notifications, the blocking page and quarantine).
The Four Panels Together
| Panel | The path it describes | Decision and results | The tabs on which it appears |
|---|---|---|---|
| Load Balancer - ADC | The whole application delivery path from the listeners to the Backend Services, with the certificate, rule and security module strips, the cache, the compression and the distribution algorithm | The distribution algorithm, persistence and the conditional Backend Service branches | Dashboard · Load Balancer Management |
| WAF - WAAP | The web application protection from the whitelist gate to the decision point, with the learning methods, the host groups, the OWASP level and the checks | Blocked · Clean · Monitor / Teacher; the WHITELISTED and LEARNING paths | Dashboard · WAF Management |
| Bot/DDoS | The threat protection from the waiting room to the three defense lines consisting of the L7 DDoS, IP Reputation and Bot protections | Monitor · Blocked · Clean · Challenge · Quarantine; the QUARANTINE path | All the tabs |
| AGS - AAM | The authentication from the AGS gate to the access decision, with the sign-in flow, the bot and lockout protections and the session policy | Denied · Signed In · Challenged; the SIGN-IN path | Dashboard · AGS Management |
