Load Balancer vServices

Load Balancer vServices is where a vService is monitored and managed from a single screen. The screen brings together, as tabs, the vService's monitoring dashboard, a readable summary of its configuration, all the records it produces, its live counters and its periodic report.

The screen is per vService: a vService's listeners, distribution algorithm, Backend Services, profiles, records and statistics concern only that vService. Everything seen on the screen is derived from that vService's own record; the only device-wide shared element is that profiles and Backend Services can be shared with other vServices.

Some of the tabs are present in every vService, while others appear together with the configuration. For this reason, the screens of two vServices may not be exactly the same: the Logs & Tracking tab is not displayed at all in a vService that produces no records, and the Report tab is not displayed at all in a vService with no report profile assigned.

If the vService has not been created yet

What a vService is, the differences between its types (HTTP, L7 TCP, Network) and all the fields in the creation form are explained on the vService page.

Accessing the Screen

  1. Left Monitor Panel is opened.
  2. Load Balancer vServices is selected from the category tabs at the top left.
  3. The vServices defined on TR7 are listed.
  4. The vService to be monitored is clicked; the screen opens with the Dashboard tab that carries the vService's name.

Since the panel tabs can be edited per user, if the Load Balancer vServices category has been removed before, it is added again from the same selector. The list is filtered by name, vService type, status, whether the WAF and AGS modules are enabled, and Bot/DDoS protections.

The same management screen opens in two more ways: when a vService is selected in the global search in the top bar and when a vService is clicked in the live monitoring indicator in the top bar.

Tabs

TabVisibility ConditionContent
vService nameAlwaysThe vService's monitoring dashboard (Dashboard).
Load Balancer ManagementAlwaysThe management canvas in which the vService's entire configuration is summarized in sentences.
Logs & TrackingIf the vService produces at least one record sourceThe tab where all records and live tables are gathered.
Live StatsAlwaysLive counters and breakdowns refreshed once per second.
Session Affinity Manager (SAM)If SAM is used as the persistence methodSession affinity management.
ReportIf a Reports profile is assigned to the vServiceThe HTML, PDF or XLSX report of the selected period.

The label of the first tab is in the form Load Balancer → <vService name>. The down arrow at the end of the label opens the menu for switching to the same vService's WAF, AGS and Bot/DDoS dashboards; the menu is displayed only if at least one other module is enabled on the vService, included in the license and within the permission area of the user. The WAF dashboard requires WAF permission; the AGS and Bot/DDoS dashboards require Load Balancer permission.

Alongside these fixed tabs, some surfaces opened from the screen appear as closable tabs: the vService edit form and the packet capture screen. When they are closed, the screen returns to the open fixed tab.

Quick operations on the vService are performed from the ⋮ menu at the right end of the tab bar: Edit, Reload, Enable, Disable, tcpdump and, below the separator, Delete.

Permission comes from a single area

Displaying the screen requires monitoring permission in the Load Balancer area; on a user with only WAF permission, the screen does not open. All operations that change the configuration, on the other hand, require modify permission in the Load Balancer area: a user with only read permission sees all tabs, but the edit entries and the modifying operations in the ⋮ menu are not displayed.

Preview panel on the right

In the Dashboard and Load Balancer Management tabs, a collapsible panel that summarizes the vService's configuration as a request flow diagram stays open on the right side of the screen. The panel closes in the other tabs; for details, see Load Balancer - ADC Data Flow Panel.

What happened? Dashboard · Live Stats

Dashboard gathers the traffic, connection, source and distribution data in the selected time range into panels and reads it from the archive; Live Stats shows the current state of the same vService with counters refreshed every second. The former is for trends, the latter for the instantaneous state.

Why did it happen? Logs & Tracking

The trail of individual requests and connections is followed from here. How a request was processed inside TR7, which Backend Service it went to, where and why it ended; in addition, the sessions open at that moment and the live content of the tracking and quarantine tables are gathered in the same tab.

What is configured? Load Balancer Management

The vService's listeners, certificates, actions, profiles, distribution algorithm, persistence method and Backend Services are read in full sentences rather than with field names. Each section's edit entry opens only the fields of the vService form that belong to that section.

What will be reported? Report

An entire period is gathered in a single document: it is produced as HTML, PDF or XLSX together with country, page, response code, browser and Backend Service breakdowns. This is the place that turns the raw data on the monitoring screens into an output that management can read.
