Export

What Is Export?

Export downloads all the page types (WAF rules) of the selected host group as a single JSON file. The Any Paths rule and the Check Fields configurations of all the rules are also included in the file. The file is in a form that can be restored exactly with Import; it is used for backing up the rule set and for moving it to another host group or TR7 device.

The Export Steps

  1. The Export button on the toolbar is clicked. The operation is independent of the table selection: whether a row is selected or not does not affect the result, the whole of the group is always exported.
  2. There is no confirmation window; the file is downloaded directly by the browser. While the operation is going on, the button icon turns into a spinning icon and the other operations on the toolbar become passive temporarily.

The name of the downloaded file consists of the protected vService name, the host group name and the date-time stamp (the spaces are replaced with _): for example Web_Servisi-DEFAULT_HOST_GROUP_20260828_1745.json.

The export is a read-only operation; the WAF configuration does not change and the rule list is not affected.

It should not be confused with the table export

The green export icon on the toolbar of the table itself (Export Table) dumps only the columns seen in the table (Path, Check Fields) to a file in the Excel/CSV/PDF format; it does not contain the rule configuration and cannot be restored with Import. For the transfer of the rule set, the Export button explained on this page is used.

Export (OpenAPI)

The Export (OpenAPI) on the same toolbar is a separate feature that exports the rule set in the OpenAPI format; see Export (OpenAPI).

Operational Best Practices

  • A backup should be taken before big changes. Before a bulk deletion, Merge or Import, the file taken with Export is the only way of restoring the rule set in the same state when necessary.
  • The file should be kept in a secure environment. The exported file contains the whole of the WAF protection configuration of the application; it should be kept in an environment with restricted access.
