sys-cmd ip show address

sys-cmd ip show address lists all the network interfaces in the route table selected in WEB-CLI, whether each interface is up, the physical link state, the MTU value, the MAC address and the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses on it. It is used to check whether a VIP is defined on the correct interface and whether the interface is up.

Command Summary

TR7 WEB-CLI · sys-cmd ip show address
admin@TR7LBWAF01> sys-cmd ip show address
admin@TR7LBWAF01>

The command has no field or parameter; if something is written after the word address, it gives a Command not found error.

How It Works

SubjectBehavior
ContextIt shows the interfaces of the selected v-device and route table. An interface is seen only while the route table it belongs to is selected.
DurationIt writes the list and closes immediately.
PipeThe output can be filtered with | or written to a file with to-file.
RecordingEvery run is written to the user logs.

What Is Seen in the Output?

Every interface is written as a block that begins with its number and name.

The expression in the outputMeaning
<…,UP,LOWER_UP>The flags in the square brackets: UP shows that the interface is administratively up, and LOWER_UP that the physical link exists
state UP · state DOWNThe operational state of the interface
mtu 1500The MTU value of the interface
link/etherThe MAC address of the interface
inet 10.0.7.20/24The IPv4 address and the prefix length
inet6The IPv6 address; the ones with scope link are link-local addresses

Examples

TR7 WEB-CLI · A) All the interfaces
admin@TR7LBWAF01> sys-cmd ip show address
admin@TR7LBWAF01>
TR7 WEB-CLI · B) Only the IPv4 address lines
admin@TR7LBWAF01> sys-cmd ip show address | grep 'inet '
admin@TR7LBWAF01>
TR7 WEB-CLI · C) Is the VIP defined in this route table
admin@TR7LBWAF01> sys-cmd ip show address | grep 10.0.7.20
admin@TR7LBWAF01>
TR7 WEB-CLI · D) The interfaces of another route table
admin@TR7LBWAF01> sys-cmd route-table set v-device Host route-table <route-table>
admin@TR7LBWAF01> sys-cmd ip show address
admin@TR7LBWAF01>

Things to Know

  • There is UP but no LOWER_UP. The interface is up, but there is no physical link; the problem is on the side of the cable, the switch port or the network adapter of the virtual machine.
  • The address does not appear. The address may be assigned to another route table; the current context is verified with route-table show. The IP addresses are managed with the network ip command.
  • For the packet and error counters netstat -i is used, and for the routes netstat -rn.
