How It Works

SubjectBehavior
ContextIt is not affected by the selected v-device and route table; it always runs on the device itself.
EffectThe file and directory information is read from the disk again together with the file contents; on services that write logs and open many files, the temporary slowdown can be noticeable.
The result messageWhen the work finishes, All caches dropped successfully (page cache, dentries and inodes). is written. This message is written without looking at the exit status of the operation; if there is a red line above it, the operation may not have been completed.

Things to Know

  • It is not run during busy hours. The performance effect is felt more under traffic; a maintenance window is preferred.
  • It is not a permanent solution. The caches fill up again in a short time. First, memory status is used to see whether there is a real shortage.
