sys-cmd memory status
sys-cmd memory status shows the memory and swap usage of the device in WEB-CLI as a single table with readable units (Mi, Gi). It is read-only; it is the first command to look at for memory complaints and before the clearing commands in the memory group.
Command Summary
admin@TR7LBWAF01> sys-cmd memory
drop-all-caches drop-page-cache free-swap status
admin@TR7LBWAF01> sys-cmd memory status
admin@TR7LBWAF01>
The command has no field or parameter; if something is written after the word status, it gives a Command not found error.
How It Works
| Subject | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Context | It is not affected by the selected v-device and route table; it always shows the memory of the device itself. |
| Confirmation | It does not ask for one; it does not change anything. |
| Pipe | The output can be filtered with | or written to a file with to-file. |
| Recording | Every run is written to the user logs. |
What Is Seen in the Output?
The table contains the Mem (memory) and Swap rows.
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
total | The total memory or swap area |
used | The area used by the applications |
free | The area that is not used at all |
shared | Shared memory |
buff/cache | The area that the system keeps in cache to speed up disk access; it is given back to the applications when needed |
available | The estimated area that can be given to the applications without falling back to swap |
Examples

Things to Know
- A low
freevalue is not a problem. The idle memory is used as cache; the value to really look at is theavailablecolumn. - Swap usage. If in the
Swaprowusedis high andavailableis low, the device is running short of memory. If swap is full althoughavailableis high, the pages left from a past load can be taken back into memory withmemory free-swap. - The memory usage over time is followed from the system graphs in the management interface; this command gives the instantaneous value.
